What I Believe

I have been personally involved in California community colleges since I was 15 years old and enrolled in a 7:00 a.m. college mathematics class. My mother was an RN who also taught nursing at our local community college. During the past 40 years, my entire family has attended NOCCCD colleges.
Other trustee candidates run for multiple public offices, trying to get elected to whatever seems available. They don't care what the position is, only whether they can get it. Their interest is themselves.
I believe in the mission and value of community colleges, and this belief is reinforced at every graduation I attend and by every student success story I hear.
At NOCCCD, we provide high quality education and vocational training to nearly 56,000 students from all walks of life. The needs we are meeting are continually expanding, and we are constantly asked to do more with less. But NOCCCD faculty, staff, and administrators rise to the challenge every day.
As a trustee, I focus on fiscal responsibility and educational effectiveness. Community colleges belong to the public, and a trustee’s role is to represent and protect the public’s interests while ensuring an excellent education for students.
Financially, trustees are to make prudent, conservative, responsible decisions in the best interests of the public and of all NOCCCD, not favoring any special interest group and considering both short-term and long-term goals and priorities.
Academically, trustees should hold administration accountable for identifying and meeting educational needs, allocating resources based on demonstrated effectiveness and necessity.
