Endorsements
As a public official, I have been asked to endorse other officials and candidates I have never met nor even talked to. Such people believe voters are impressed by long lists of endorsements, regardless of whether those endorsements mean anything. I give voters more credit than that.
Do you doubt that endorsements are meaningless? Simply compare the lists of their endorsers by the other candidates. How many times do two of them claim endorsements from the SAME PERSON?? (Hint: it’s more than once or twice…) They’re just hoping you don’t notice this attempt to scam you as the hoax it is.
Are endorsements by political parties any better? I was invited to ask for a party endorsement. Did my views on important issues matter? Apparently not as much as the $100 I would have to pay to get the endorsement. Was I surprised? Yes, though maybe I shouldn’t have been. Was I disgusted? Yes, absolutely.
Early in my service as a trustee, I made a deliberate decision not to request endorsements, and I have continued that policy. I have received unsolicited expressions of support from people inside and outside of NOCCCD, but I have not publicized the specifics of them. I am deeply appreciative of everyone who believes in the value of my service as a trustee, but you can be certain that if any person or group chooses to endorse me, it was on their own initiative, not because I asked them to do so.
